I want to share all my best blogging tips with you so you can start an amazing beauty blog and get it going fast!
How To Start A Beauty Blog
Here are my easy steps on how to start a beauty blog:
- Name your blog
- Choose a platform
- Install a theme
- Create your brand
- Start posting
- Promote on social media
1. Name Your Blog
The first thing to do when you start a beauty blog is to name it! You need to come up with a unique, memorable name that will stand out and help you to gain followers. Following are some words which might spark an idea in your mind:
You will need to mix and match a selection of words to come up with a name that hasn’t been taken already. Once you have a list of potential names, type them into the domain search bar below to check if the domain is available (you can get your domain for free if you start your WordPress blog with Bluehost)
When you click the green ‘check availability’ button above, it will either take you to a page that says it’s not available for registration, OR it will take you to a page to create your blog hosting account (which means it’s free and ready to go!).
If your desired domain name is free, get it as soon as you can! When you purchase your blog hosting with Bluehost, they will include your domain for free so you don’t have to purchase it separately anywhere else and it will automatically be connected to your new blog. More and more domains are being snapped up every day (people even buy them just to re-sell) so if you can get your domain, snap it up before someone else does.
2. Choose A Platform
If you want to start a successful beauty blog, I highly recommend starting a self-hosted WordPress blog. You will need an amazing blog theme where you can have “shop the post” widgets, ads, shopping pages and beautiful large images.
If you go with a free blogging site, you’ll be very restricted in terms of how it looks, what you can do with it and its Google rankings. I originally started my fashion blog with Blogger and it never looked good or did as well until I moved to WordPress – I regret not doing it sooner! Make sure you start with WordPress from the beginning.
Follow my easy instructions on how to start a WordPress blog and have it up and running in 30 minutes!
3. Install A Theme
If you start a WordPress blog, you’re very lucky because the best blog themes are WordPress ones! There are so many beautiful blog themes that will make your fashion blog shine. I’ve searched around to find the very best themes for fashion blogs so the work is done for you!
My Top Theme Recommendations
The best theme to start off with is one of my own – Cassidy. If you’re just getting into WordPress, you should want your blog to look professional yet be easy to run and change things yourself.
Cassidy for WordPress has an easy installation guide, it’s very simple and perfect for new bloggers. I have an Installation service if needed, and if you want to change the color to your brand’s color, I can do that as well with a Color Change. You can add your own header image, menu and widgets in the side bar.
Another place to find beautiful blog themes is Lovely Confetti, where you’ll find professional themes that you can really make your own and style to suit your blog by adding your own photos, colors and content.
When choosing a blog theme, choose one that has a layout that will make your content look good. Don’t get caught up in the photos that have been used in the demo. Try to imagine your photos in the theme, your blog posts and your writing.
Pages To Set Up
Once you have purchased and installed your new theme, you will need to set up your pages and menu. A beauty blog should always have:
- About Page – Set up your About page so your followers can get to know the person behind the blog!
- Shop Page – Use this page to add a big product widget (see below) so you can earn money from your readers shopping your favorite items
- Contact Page – so brands and businesses can contact you about collaborations and PR packages
4. Create Your Brand
As a beauty blogger, you will need your very own brand. Your brand is the way your readers recognise you, your style and your blog. The easiest way to create a brand is to start with a logo – your blog title in a fancy font. I have some affordable logo designs available in my store. You will need to place your logo at the top of your new blog theme – your theme will come with instructions on how to do that!
5. Start Posting
Now that you have started a beauty blog, installed your theme and set up your pages, you will need to start posting! The more posts you have on your blog, the more high quality it will be and it’s more likely to appear in search engines. Most beauty bloggers cover a variety of beauty-related topics and bring new readers in by writing helpful reviews on products, showing swatches, how they work and what’s worth buying.

6. Promote On Social Media
And lastly, to get your new beauty blog known in the world of beauty blogging, you will need to start promoting it! Always use appropriate hashtags on your Instagram posts, such as the hashtags of the brands you’ve featured in the photo and also tags like #bbloggers and #beautybloggers.
Make sure you sign up to Bloglovin and claim your blog, giving it the topic of Beauty so you will start appearing in other’s recommendations.
How Do Beauty Bloggers Make Money?
You might be wondering how to make money with a beauty blog – there are so many ways you can make money blogging. The one way that might be most successful for you is using affiliate links. This is where you place links on your blog where you earn money every time someone purchases what you have linked to. To add affiliate links to your blog, you will need to join some affiliate programs. The best affiliate programs for beauty bloggers are:
To use affiliate links on your blog, you can:
- Add affiliate links to your blog posts when mentioning products
- Create “shop the post” product widgets for your blog posts and side bar
- Use the “Swipe Up” link feature on Instagram Stories to link to items you love or things you’ve recently purchased.
If you want to add a Shop page to your blog, where you have a display a selection of items you love, this is done by adding a Product Widget to the page. You can do this through Rewardstyle or Shopstyle Collective.
Another popular way of making money as a beauty blogger is by running a Youtube Channel, where you can translate your blog posts into video ideas (eg. makeup tutorials, beauty favourites, hauls, etc.)
